After obtaining his PhD in 2000, Dr. Charki worked for four years in the private sector, in the automotive industry (Autoliv/Altran) as a project manager and at Cofrac (the French national accreditation body for certifiers, inspection bodies, and laboratories) as an accreditation engineer and quality and metrology assessor. This experience was enriching and beneficial in developing his relationships with the economic and industrial world. He has maintained good industrial relationships to this day. Very quickly, he established industrial collaborations for the benefit of teaching programs (to place students in internships, to find industrial projects and professional contributors) and research activities. He was involved in activities carried out by the CRITT (Regional Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer) to support businesses in Maine-et-Loire (Pays de la Loire, western France).
He initiated partnerships for the following industrial and research contracts: As part of the ANR DIA-SOLAIRE project that he is currently coordinating, he has developed several collaborations with industrial operators of large solar power plants. From 2005 to 2023, he was a member of the board of directors of the CAFMET (African Committee for Metrology), an important international organization for the dissemination of quality and metrology culture and for the economic and industrial development of Africa. From 2005 to 2009, he was a member of the board of directors of ASTE (Association for the Development of Environmental Science and Technology). Since 2018, he has been a member of the QuaRES (Quality and Social Responsibility in Research and Higher Education) association, which brings together several universities and laboratories, including private laboratories.
Here are some of the projects in which Dr. Abdérafi Charki has been involved:
- In 2007, a project funded by EXFO (formerly Astellia) and CAPTRONIC: The aim of the project was to set up experimental tests to characterize the resistance of lead-free solder subjected to temperature and vibration stresses.
- In 2009, a project funded by Ginger CEBTP: The project consisted of estimating the durability of photovoltaic cells.
- In 2014, the ANR PRCE OMEGA project with CSTB (pilot), AXIMA Concept, CETE: The project enabled the implementation of methodological tools for energy performance guarantees.
- In 2023, he obtained CIFRE funding in collaboration with ESAIP: The project focuses on the development of digital twins for industrial control systems.
- Since 2024, Dr. Abdérafi CHARKI has been the scientific coordinator of the ANR project DIA-SOLAIRE, involving three academic laboratories and several industrial partners. This project develops deep learning and data augmentation tools for diagnosis and prognosis of photovoltaic power plants.
Since 2020, he has also been the deputy director of the Doctoral School of Engineering and Systems Sciences (ED SIS des Pays de la Loire).
